Recognized As a World Leader in Wireless Enhanced Audio and HD Video Technology, BSI Connects With PGA Fans Around the Globe
Hanover, MD...Broadcast Sports, Inc. (BSI) played a key role in CBS's broadcast of the 93rd PGA Championship, the final major event of the 2011 PGA Tour. A world leader in RF camera and audio systems for over 25 years, BSI provided the wireless audio and video for the PGA Championship Tournament at the Atlanta Athletic Club in John's Creek, GA from August 11th -14th. PGA fans from around the globe were treated to great shots and up-close sounds that made for a compelling, middle-of-the-action Championship experience.
In addition to CBS, BSI also supplied equipment and support to other news and production teams from ESPN, Turner, DirecTV, and XM, as well as several International Broadcasters including groups from the UK and Japan.
"We are proud of the production we are able to jointly create with our colleagues at CBS during the PGA Championship," said VP/GM of Sports Operations Matt Hong during his interview with SVG. "Our collaboration provides golf fans with innovative, top-notch coverage of one of the PGA's most popular and storied tournaments."
Logistics for an event of this size, length, and broadcasting scope meant meeting a set of complex requirements including available frequency spectrums and equipment needs throughout the club's Highlands Course including: 18 RF Cameras, 14 effects microphones, 11 wireless talent packs, an additional 8 talent microphones, 17 PL systems, 19 IFB systems, and over 330 two-way radios. The command and control of all of this gear took place in two 53-foot BSI trailers. Twelve BSI professionals were on site to service the televised tournament over the 4 days of competition.
"From a production standpoint, we feel this is just as big as the Masters or the Super Bowl," said CBS Sports VP of Production Harold Bryant in an interview with SVG. "We ramp up the PGA Championship with additional cameras, mics, playback machines, and a lot more specialty equipment."
This marks the 15th season that BSI has been providing technology for the PGA broadcasts on CBS.
